South Asia is the epicenter of the heinous practice of dowry culture. A common practice in many other countries where gender disparities are high and the outdated custom directly or indirectly oppresses women.
There are credible reports that dowry practice leads to deaths of women in the context of South Asian nations, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and others.
Simply called gifts for the bride, dowry represents the money or goods that a woman brings to her husband in marriage. Dowry is an overburdening curse that has engulfed our society and has taken an unpleasant form of blackmail, reluctantly accepted and fulfilled in order for girls to be married.
