Physicists produce brightest man made light ever on earth using a laser that could be used for better treatment of tumours by detecting then under X-Ray’s or using clearer X-rays at airports #AceB4ITSNews – @AceNewsServices

#AceB4ITSNews – June.27: A group of physicists at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Extreme Light Laboratory announced Monday that they have created the brightest light ever produced on Earth using Diocles, one of the most powerful lasers in the United States #AceNewsDesk reports

Physicists Have Created the Brightest Light Ever Recorded
Published on June 26, 2017 at 09:00PM Jason Koebler writes: . When this high intensity laser pulse, which is one billion times brighter than the surface of the sun, strikes the electron, it causes it to behave differently.

By firing this laser at individual electrons, the researchers found that past a certain threshold, the brightness of light will actually change an object’s appearance rather than simply making it brighter. The x-rays that are produced in this fashion have an extremely high amount of energy, and Umstadter and his colleagues think this could end up being applied in a number of ways.

For starters, it could allow doctors to produce x-ray medical images on the nanoscale, which would allow them to detect tumors and other anomalies that regular x-rays might have missed . Moreover, it could also be used for more sophisticated x-ray scanning at airports and other security checkpoints

#B4ITSNews Reports: The Christian Science Monitor wonders if it’s time to re-engineer our climate. MIT’s Technology Review basically thinks the answer is “yes,” having described it earlier as “cheap and easy ” Harvard’s is partly funded by Gates need we say more – @AceNewsServices

Dan Drollette shares an article by an Oxford physics professor who’s concerned about the popularity of radical new proposals to fight global warming #AceB4ITSNews reports

What Happens When Geoengineers ‘Hack The Planet’? Published on June 25, 2017 at 01:14AM: The Christian Science Monitor wonders if it’s time to re-engineer our climate. MIT’s Technology Review basically thinks the answer is “yes,” having described it earlier as “cheap and easy.”

The Atlantic seems quite smitten with Economist writer Oliver Morton’s vision of remaking the planet, which geoengineering booster Jane Long breathlessly called “geopoetry.”

The idea received recent coverage (much of it favorable) by New Scientist, NBC, and in TED talks; I myself have recently participated in an NPR panel discussion on the subject…

But what has really catapulted the idea into the public eye is Harvard’s reckless plan for a privately-funded field trial testing some of the key elements needed… Proceeding to field experimentation crosses a thin red line beyond which lies the slippery slope down to ever-larger field trials and ultimately deployment. Harvard’s experiment — which is partially funded by Bill Gates — is “subject to no governance save what Harvard chooses to impose upon itself,” according to the article. The experiment involves “putting something in the atmosphere to reflect more sunlight back out into space,” which the article warns will create “enduring” effects — and require humanity to commit to maintaining the same atmospheric conditions forever #AceB4ITSNews

#Colorado Plans measure to that would ban smartphones for children under 13-years of age with a fine for any retailers selling them #AceB4ItsNews -@AceNewsServices

#Colorado officials have cleared the language of a proposed ballot measure that would establish the nation’s first legal limits on buying smartphones for children #AceNewsDesk reports

A Colorado Group Wants To Ban Smartphones For Kids Published on June 18, 2017 at 06:34PM By AP Backers of the move to forbid the sale of smartphones to children younger than 13 would now need about 300,000 voter signatures for the proposal to make the 2018 ballot. The ban would require cellphone retailers to ask customers about the age of the primary user of a smartphone and submit monthly reports to the Colorado Department of Revenue on adhering to the requirement. Retailers who sell a phone for use by a youngster could be fined $500, after a warning.

A Denver-area dad is leading the campaign — a board certified anesthesiologist who says children change when they get a cellphone.
“They go from being outgoing, energetic, interested in the world and happy, to reclusive.
They want to spend all their time in their room. They lose interest in outside activities.” #AceNewsDesk

Facebook planning on using your smartphone camera to spy on you by using your emotions #AceB4ITSNews – @AceNewsServices

#AceNewsReport – June.09: The social network applied for a patent to capture pictures of a user through their smartphone.

Facebook Wants To Spy On People Using Their Phone’s Camera and Analyze Facial Emotions Published on June 08, 2017 at 03:00AM: An anonymous reader quotes a report from The Sun:The creepy designs, which date back to 2015, were discovered by software company CBI Insight, which has been analyzing Mark Zuckerberg’s “emotion technology.” Patent documents contain illustrations showing a person holding a smartphone with a camera taking a picture from which “emotion characteristics” like smiling or frowning are detected.
If the person appears to like what they’re seeing, Facebook could place more of the same type of content in front of them. Patents don’t always make it through to the end product, so it’s not clear whether Facebook will bring out this new feature.
Researchers at CBI Insights warned that the plans could put a lot of people off using the service.
Facebook appears to have tested out similar technology to work out which emoji to send to people using a selfie.
