#AceSportsNews – Sept.26: Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has hailed the great talent of his young squad after the impressive 4-1 victory over Manchester City on 26 September. The Argentine manager, meanwhile, highlighted the “fantastic” performance of Erik Lamela and the importance of Harry Kane’s first goal of the campaign.
Kevin de Bruyne put Manchester City ahead after a good start to the game but Spurs reacted to secure the three points, thanks to goals from Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Kane and Lamela.
The Argentine forward was set to leave White Hart Lane during the summer transfer window after struggling to make the impact expected in his first two seasons at the Premier League. But after he stayed, Pochettino said he faced a key season to prove his worth and Lamela responded against City with arguably his best performance for Spurs since his move from Roma.
“We are very happy with him. He was fantastic today, he scored which was important and worked very hard for the team,” Pochettino said after the game as quoted by London24. “We are very happy, we have a lot of potential and are very young. Today was the youngest team and this is important.”
Meanwhile, Kane ended a 12-hour goal drought after taking advantage of a rebound following Christian Eriksen’s free-kick hit the crossbar. “It is very important for him and very important for him to take off the pressure. I get asked in every press conference but it is much better now,” Pochettino admitted.
Spurs managed to put their Capital One Cup defeat to Arsenal behind them. The manager was delighted with the reaction of his team but urged them to keep their feet on the ground ahead of the coming games.
He said: “I think it was a great victory for us, it was a great result, very happy. Very pleased for our supporters, after Wednesday they deserved that result. First half was difficult for us to find the way to play against them – the second half was easier, we fixed some problems at half time.”
