#AceWorldNews – Solomon Islands:May.21: A 6.9-magnitude earthquake was registered near the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific on Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
The epicenter of the quake was near the Santa Cruz Island group at a depth of about six miles (10 kilometers). There have been no reports of death or serious damage and no tsunami threat has been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC).
“A destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii,” PTWC said in a statement.
The Solomon Islands are situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 90 percent of world’s earthquakes occur.
